A Holly, Jolly Marketing Approach for Small Businesses

The holiday season has returned, and that means it's time for small businesses to update their marketing strategies. If you're still using the same tired old tactics, you're not going to make much of a dent in the holiday shopping rush. To give you a better edge this season, the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce put together a list of great marketing tactics. Let's get started!

Host a Fun Event

A great way to get foot traffic into your store is to host a pop-up event. This can be anything from a simple holiday-themed open house to a more elaborate trunk show or meet-and-greet with a local celebrity. Whatever you do, make sure it's something that will pique your target customer's interest and have them coming back for more.

Holiday Giveaways

We all love a good freebie, so why not hold a holiday giveaway? You can promote it via social media, on your website, and even in-store. To sweeten the deal, offer customers additional entries for every $25 they spend at your store. This will encourage them to shop with you and also help boost sales. Just make sure the prize is something that your target customer would actually want.

Simplify Shopping with a Gift Guide

A standout way to market your products during the holidays is to create a gift guide. This way, customers can easily find the perfect present for their loved ones without having to sift through all of your products. To make things even easier for them (and increase your chances of making a sale), send it out as a PDF they can access via their smartphone when they're in the store. Not only are PDFs versatile and able to be viewed on practically any device, it’s easy to edit a PDF quickly if you need to adjust or remove pages or change up the text.

Tap Into Social Media

Social media is a powerful marketing tool year-round, but it's especially useful during the holidays when people are actively searching for gift ideas online. Use social media to engage with customers and get them excited about shopping with you this holiday season. You can post holiday songs, share holiday recipes, host social media contests—the sky's the limit! Just make sure you're being strategic about which platforms you use and who your target audience is.

A Seasonal Partnership

Small businesses need all the help they can get during the holidays, so team up with other businesses in your area (or even outside of your area) to cross-promote each other's products and services. This is a great way to reach new customers and grow your customer base, not to mention it's great for networking purposes.

Reward Your Loyal Customers

Gifting loyalty points or rewards are also a great way of growing business this season while showing some love to those who have been supportive throughout the year. You can also offer sneak peeks for new products, discounts for purchases at a certain amount or even pre-orders for popular products.

Use Your Packaging As An Advertising Tool

First impressions are important, and you want your customers to be impressed when they open up your boxes and see your products. Updating your packaging for the holiday season is a great way to show your customers that you're paying attention to the latest trends and that you're committed to offering them the best possible experience. And, of course, it's also a great opportunity to spread some holiday cheer.

Sponsor a Local Charity

Local charities are always searching for businesses to sponsor their causes. Why not use this opportunity to raise awareness for one of your favorite local organizations? You can host a food drive, raise donations through a sponsored event or give away a certain amount of proceeds from sales. This is a perfect opportunity to spread goodwill and benefit a cause that's near and dear to your heart.

Now that you have some ideas for how to successfully market your small business this holiday season, it's time to get to work so your business can enjoy a merry and bright future. Good luck and happy holidays!
